We have brought many teams from the
United States to Tijuana.
The city of
Tijuana sits on the Northwest corner of Mexico and borders the United
States and the Pacific Ocean.
It is an ideal location
for training for Short Term Missions because of the convenience
and the low cost involved.
The population
of Tijuana is estimated at nearly
three million people and it is still growing. Some consider it to be
the next Los Angeles due to the developing metropolitan area.
Businesses are moving to Tijuana from all over the world. Next to
Mexico City, it has the best economy and the highest wages in all of
Mexico and still over half of the people are living in poverty even by
their standards. The minimum wage for Mexico is only $5 per day.
The churches
in Tijuana are very hungry for the greater things of God.
The pastors seem to want the same thing for their churches – to
teach their people faith in God. Many of the
pastors here have been ministering for years, but have never had any formal
Bible or ministry training. However, they are eager to learn. Some of
the churches do not even have a children’s ministry simply because they
“do not know what to do with the children.”
In our STM events to
Tijuana we have seen literally hundreds of people make decisions to
follow Christ. All of our events are set up to work with the local
churches. Every person we reach is instantly introduced to a local
church with information cards given to the church leaders to follow up
with them. |
